How it works

Website owners will pay to watch a real person use their site so they can discover where their site is confusing. UserTesting.com has a panel of "user testers" to do this. If you become one of our user testers, then whenever your demographic profile is requested, you'll have an opportunity to earn money using a website.
You use our online screen recorder to record a video of what's happening on your screen - mouse movements, clicks, and keystrokes - and your spoken comments while you use the website you're testing. (Videos are typically 15 minutes long.)

How to become a user tester

Be at least 18 years old
Have your own PC or Mac (Mac OS X 10.5 or higher) and a broadband Internet connection. You can record your voice with a microphone or by telephone.
Fill out a one-page form with your demographic information (gender, computer experience, etc.).
Use our browser-based screen recorder to record your screen and verbal comments as you browse a sample website.

Earn $10 for 20 minutes? What's the catch?

This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Most people shouldn't plan on earning a steady income from UserTesting.com.

Why? You might not receive many (or any) work opportunities. There are three reasons for this:

1. Your demographics. You'll only receive work opportunities if your demographic profile matches the target audience of the websites being tested.

2. An oversupply of user testers. Because this is such a high-paying opportunity, we have more user testers in our database than we have work opportunities.

3. Your ability to provide useful feedback. To be a helpful user tester, you should be good at thinking out loud, taking the point of view of the customer, and finding things that are confusing.
